The Koran Page

Iraq, 9th century, ink on red parchment – 26.5 cm x 22.5 cm.

A page from the Koran in a horizontal pattern with 16 lines in Kufic script in black ink, from Sura 11, from the last word of verse 59 to the middle of verse 74. Dots that denote the short vowels, although there are no diacritic marks. The ends of the verses are denoted by three slanting lines. Like many other pages from the Koran, from the 8th to 10th centuries, this page also has a special horizontal pattern, and employs parchment and Kufic script. However, there are few Koran pages made of dyed parchment.
