“The Jerusalem Advantage”
Programs of Culture and Identity
in cooperation with other museums and cultural institutions in Jerusalem
A Never-Ending Treasure
1st to 4th Grades
An educational tour of the museum galleries lets the children experience a wonderful and inspiring world of art and literature, full of wisdom and beauty.
In artistic objects meant for everyday use, they will discover a variety of colorful, complex techniques that represent the pinnacle of Islamic art – in jewelry, ceramics, glassware, carved wood furniture inlaid with gemstones, and more.
Objects adorned with decorative writing – calligraphy – are an artistic expression of the power of the written word. The art of writing takes us to a rich literary tradition of poets and writers, and a treasure-chest of wise folk-sayings. Some similarities of language and values provide points of contact between cultures, through art and literature.
The children view selected exhibits, and gain an appreciation of both their artistic and functional aspects. They are shown texts, and learn about the stories and sayings the texts contain through play-acting and games. They discover points of contact between their own values and culture and those of other participants. And, finally, they make some useful object – jewelry or a vessel – together with calligraphy in different languages.
Cost: NIS 23 per child
