The Museum Comes to the Classroom

Schools Learn with the Help of the Museum

The museum leaves its home and goes to schools with a variety of activities, educational work, shows and arts workshops. The topic and content will be coordinated with the schools.

Grades 1-4

Islamic Art

Brief description: A fascinating journey in the wake of practical works of art – from the pinnacles of Islamic art of all time. The journey inspired by artifacts and jewelry, pottery and glass, and carved wooden furniture, embedded with jewels, will be supported by an interactive game, observing the exhibits and studying the artistic and practical aspects.

Arts workshop: To be chosen and tailored to the study topic.

Leisure Culture

Brief description: Educational activity which incorporates riddles designed to introduce students to the development of leisure culture in Moslem society, and the forms of entertainment and leisure in the society, compared with leisure culture today. The students will learn about the importance of leisure culture in the court circles, and among ordinary people, and about shadow theater, listening to music and the game of chess, as they are reflected in Islamic art.

Workshop: Playing chess, checkers or a music workshop.

 Grades 5-6

Arabic Language and Writing*

Brief description: Hebrew and Arabic are sibling languages. They have similar structures, a common basic vocabulary and numerous other similarities. The students will learn about the roots of Arabic, words in Arabic that are similar to Hebrew words and will learn about the Arabic language through word games, sentences and songs. Through the sayings and expressions, which highlight the similarities between the cultures, we will also look at daily life and the values of culture in Islam and in Judaism. The students will discern the linguistic similarity between Arabic and Hebrew when they listen to passages in Arabic which refer to the exhibits in the museum, and familiar texts in both languages.

Workshop: Hammering the stylized Arabic ABC or a blessing on a piece of aluminum and painting in fixed colors.

* Also for schools that teach Arabic as an additional language.
