Cluster: Art and Literature (grades 1-2)

Part 1

Activity topic: The Never-ending Treasure

The activity: A journey in the footsteps of the king’s hidden treasures during which the students will search around the museum for silver and gold artifacts, and jewels belonging to the king. They will see artifacts from different eras and substances, musical instruments and also a storyteller, and they discover what is the museum’s inexhaustible treasure that is given to each and every person. The experiential tour of the museum will show the children a rich world of art, beauty and inspiration together with riddles and questions about a variety of decorated practical works of art, from the pinnacle of Islamic art.

 

Part 2

Activity topic: Art, Artists and Craftsmen

The activity: A multisensorial encounter with glass, ceramics, wood, metal and stone. Each material has its own unique properties, and a different way of processing and decorating them which requires various skills.

 

Learning at the museum:  On the tour the children will learn about the techniques used by the makers of the jewelry, the vessels, tiles, furniture etc. They will learn about the crafts of the potter, the jewelry maker, calligrapher and glassblower, and will explore the connection between material and technique.

Activity length: Two and a half hours

Number of students: Unlimited.

 

Cluster: History and Heritage (grades 3-4)

Part 1

Activity topic: The Game of Thrones in Islamic Culture

The activity: Learning about the leisure culture in Islamic society, the forms of leisure and entertainment and comparing them with our leisure culture.

Learning at the museum:  Through an experiential tour of the galleries, questions and riddles, the students will learn about the historical development of leisure culture in the Islamic world, and the forms of leisure and entertainment there. They will learn about the importance of shadow theater, music, chess and other leisure activities in the court circles, and among ordinary people, as reflected in Islamic art.

 

Part 2

Activity topic: Between Isaac and Ishmael

The activity: An encounter with Arabic and Jewish culture through beliefs, the home and family.

Learning at the museum:  Getting to know Islamic culture and beliefs, and stopping at select stations that illustrate beliefs and art, beauty and joie de vivre. During the course of the tour the students will be exposed to the structure of Islamic and Jewish societies through the family unit, various rituals and domestic life. We will examine how traditional dress reflects faith, customs, status and identity, and how music and songs reflect faith and lifestyle.

Activity length: Two and a half hours

Number of students: Unlimited.
