Amir Shahsar Quartet

Amir Shahsar is a rare and exciting artist, admired by his peers as a master musician. He left his native Iran for Turkey over 30 years ago, and from there moved to Israel, where he found a warm welcome.

His unusual skill on wind instruments has led to countless musical collaborations in Israel and abroad with most Israeli world-music artists, and mainstream, Mediterranean, and even jazz musicians. Shahsar is more than a great instrumentalist, he is a singer with a distinctive voice.

For this concert, Amir is joined by his good friend Mumin Sessler, (Turkey) who plays the Turkish qanun, a kind of zither. With Alon Amano Campino and Roi Friedman, the band takes us on an unforgettable journey of Persian, Turkish, Azeri, Arabic and Armenian music, moving between the traditional and ‘art’ compositions, between old and modern, between Eastern tonality and rhythms and Western harmony.

Amir Shahsar: Ney flute, clarinet, vocals

Mumin Sessler: Qanun

Alon Amano Campino: guitar, oud

Roi Friedman: percussion
